Federal compliance and “safe water” are not synonyms.
A utility can pass every federal test and still deliver water you would not choose to drink if you saw the numbers. The Safe Drinking Water Act sets legal limits. Independent scientists — including the Environmental Working Group — set health-protective guidelines that are often much stricter. The difference between the two is sometimes the difference between “legal” and what a careful person would actually want in their home.
We use EPA and EWG data because they are the best independent sources we have. We translate what they report into something a homeowner can actually use.
